It works by providing a low-impedance path to the ground, allowing the high-frequency transient energy to be safely dissipated. It also acts as an impedance clamp, limiting the rise and fall time of the transient, allowing greater protection against non-propagating ESD events.

The SAC10-E3/54 TVS diode uses a low-capacitance diode array configured as a high-speed, bidirectional diode network with integrated ESD protection, surge protection and signal conditioning. The device\'s internal ESD protection typically clamps transient voltages within the range of 0 to 50 volts, achieving a high breakdown voltage of up to 250 volts. It also has a high-current absorption capability of up to 1.5 kA, making it capable of absorbing a large amount of energy during a transient event.
