TVS diodes, which stands for Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) Diodes, are also known as surge suppressors. They are designed to protect against voltage transients caused by lightning, induction, static, and other fluctuating voltages. They are solid-state devices that effectively absorb large surges and buy time for the circuits to be disconnected or the power supply to be shut off.

SA7.0CA B0G is a TVS diode, designed for Automotive Application Field with Reverse Stand-off Voltage of 7V and Break-down Voltage (BV) of 33V.  SA7.0CA B0G is used to suppress voltage transits such as ElectroMagnetic Interference (EMI) and ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD).  SA7.0CA B0G is connected across the power line and its working principle is that it acts as an open circuit when not exposed to transient and maintains a short circuit when voltage transits occurs.

Under normal working conditions, the SA7.0CA B0G diode is in the off-state, preventing current from flowing through it. When a transient voltage spike occurs, it will become forward biased, allowing current to flow through it. This current “Robbins” up the diode, absorbing most of the voltage spike. The voltage seen on the circuit after transient protection is usually below the maximum allowable value.

The SA7.0CA B0G diode is designed to withstand surges up to 12A and can recover in less than 1μs, in order to protect the sensitive power semiconductor from destruction. It is also good at the surge clamping of the power Voltage Rail and clamping of PCM data line in car applications e.g. airbags and central electric controllers. It is small in size, light in weight and show good conformity and reliability.

SA7.0CA B0G is a common embodiment of of the TVS diode; other similar type also available include SA3.3CB G0G, SA7.1CA B0G, SA10CA B0G, and SA24CB G0G etc. They come with various reverse standoff voltage (Vr), clamping voltage (Vc), peak surge current (Ipp), clamping time (tcr), maximum working temperature (Tmax) and size etc.
