TVS - Diodes are devices that protect electrical systems from transient overvoltage. The MXUPT48 is a TVS (transient voltage suppressor) diode designed for protecting sensitive electronics from ESD (electrostatic discharge). It is constructed with low capacitance silicon diodes for faster response to overvoltage transients. The input lead has a ground connection so that current will be shunted away from the protected circuit.

MXUPT48 is available in different breakover voltage values for various applications. Its main feature is a low capacitance (<25 pF) which enables fast switching times of less than 150 ns. This coupled with its low clamping voltage makes it ideal for use in high-speed digital circuits. Furthermore, the low on-state resistance of the diode ensures low power dissipation on the protected circuit. The device also has low stand-off voltage which helps in reducing the total voltage seen by the protected circuit.

The MXUPT48 is used in a variety of applications, especially those requiring protection from electrostatic discharge. Then, the clamping voltage of the diode is such that the discharged current is limited to a safe level. The purpose of the MXUPT48 is to prevent excessive current from entering the protected circuit which may lead to damage or failure.

In addition, the MXUPT48 is also designed to dissipate a large amount of energy during a transient event, which helps in improving the protection of the system. This is enabled through its low on-state resistance (Rdson) which is responsible for the energy dissipated during an ESD event.
