TVS - Diodes (transient voltage suppression diodes) are semiconductor devices designed to protect sensitive electronic circuits from voltage spikes and noise due to static discharges and inductive loads. The 1N6507, a part of this series, relies on a unidirectional flow of current and is made from silicon. Its design involves a pair of P-N junctions and an N-type layer of silicon between them. It is this layer which provides protection from ESD (electrostatic discharge) in high voltage circuits.

The 1N6507 possesses two main capabilities that make it noteworthy. First, it can absorb ESD pulses and transients that might otherwise overwhelm sensitive circuits. Its second notable feature is its low clamping voltage, the voltage at which the diode begins to conduct current. Because its voltage clamping is so low, it is suitable for the protection of low voltage circuits from ESD pulses.

The working principle of the 1N6507 is based on a voltage breakdown and conduction in its reverse direction. When a voltage in excess of the specified breakdown voltage is applied to the P-N junctions of the diode, it breaks down and begins to conduct current. During this process, the diode can suppress transients and protection is offered by the diode\'s ability to conduct current in the reverse direction.

The 1N6507 has numerous application fields, including in automotive applications such as the spark coil. It can also be used in line drivers and EMI (electromagnetic interference) filters. It can also be used in power circuits such as lighting systems, as well as industrial and home electronics where its low clamping voltage can provide protection from surges. Due to its low clamping voltage, the 1N6507 is particularly suitable for the protection of low voltage circuits.

As is typical of many TVS diodes, the 1N6507 is small in size, easy to mount, and has a low profile; all of these features make it easier to install in a circuit. Furthermore, it has a fast response time and is able to absorb quantities of energy much greater than its own rating.
