Encoders have wide applications in automated industries and control systems. The DP16H1212A20F encoder is no exception. The DP16H1212A20F is composed of three main elements. The housing, rotor, and optics board. The housing is a cylindrical body made of corrosion-resistant material like aluminum. Inside, buried in an epoxy resin-filled groove, is a disc-shaped rotor. On the surface of the rotor are magnetic areas with opposite polarities. As the rotor turns, the magnetic fields generate a sine wave signal that is picked up by the optics board mounted inside the housing. The optics board includes a light source and photo-detector pair. The light source is an LED that emits a narrow beam of light in a specific direction. The light is then focused by a lens onto an array of pits printed or etched into the rotor. As the rotor turns, the lens reflects the pulses of light from the pits into the photo-detector. The detector converts the pulses of light into a voltage signal, which in turn is converted into an electrical output. This electrical output can be used to determine the exact absolute angle of the rotor.
