?Snap action, limit switches like the ESE-13H01D are electromechanical devices widely used in various recreational and industrial automation applications to provide electrical signals for activating specific stages of a machine or process. They do so by providing a small mechanical contact or switch upon activation or release of a pushing or pulling force, usually from an external operator. Typically snap action, limit switches can detect position, pressure, angular displacement, temperature and the like. It is these traits that make them essential to a variety of processes and equipment.
An ESE-13H01D snap action, limit switch is a single pole single throw (SPST) contact switch, typically rated for use between 10A at 24v DC/AC, 10A at 250V AC/DC. It features mechanical complexity via a spring loaded switch and contact system and electrical interface via either two or three screw terminals depending on how it is wired. The unique feature of the ESE-13H01D switch is the UL Recognized and CSA certified snap action mechanism which triggers the switch. This provides the ideal solution for general-duty applications that require high-precision switching.
Both the electrical and mechanical working principles involved for the ESE-13H01D snap action, limit switch are relatively simple. When activated, a switching arm loads with a predetermined resistance, upon which the contact is mechanically and electrically closed. The turning of the arm also opens the electromagnetic field which powers the magnetic and electrical systems. The resisting force, which can also be provided by an external “plunger”, utilizing a locking system unlocks the arm and allows it to turn back, opening the contact and thereby deactivating the switch.
ESE-13H01D switches are most commonly found in the following applications:
- Automatic storage and retrieval systems
- Material handling equipment
- Machine tools
- Robotics
- Electrical control systems
- Security/Fire Systems
In all of the above applications, the snap action, limit switch serves an important role in detecting critical parameters and providing physical feedback to other systems and the environment. This provides a level of automation and monitoring which is not usually possible without a cleverly designed switch.
The ESE-13H01D switch is a perfect example of how limit switches can be cost-effectively implemented in a variety of applications. With its operating temperature range of -20 to +60 °C, rated operating force of 300 gf and contact resistance of 100MΩ at 500V AC, it can be reliably used for any recreational and industrial automation, detection and monitoring application.
