Snap action, limit switches are industrial devices used to sense the current position, or pressure of an external object. The device is electromechanical, and as such, is dependent on electrical and/or electronic components to sense and communicate the data it receives. To create a reliable and repeatable switching device, engineers typically employ a combination of a mechanical switch and an electronic circuit. The ball bearing is held in position by a bias spring indicating the normal state of the switch contacts. Depending on the orientation of the contacts, this movement of the ball bearing will either open or close the contacts, thus turning the circuit on or off.
