Snap action, limit switches are industrial devices used to sense the current position, or pressure of an external object. The device is electromechanical, and as such, is dependent on electrical and/or electronic components to sense and communicate the data it receives. To create a reliable and repeatable switching device, engineers typically employ a combination of a mechanical switch and an electronic circuit. The most common limit switch types are referred to as DCL10(C)F limit switches.
A DCL10(C)F limit switch is designed to detect and actuate an external object’s relative position and/or motion. These limit switches consist of two switch elements, held in an enclosure, joined together with an actuating arm. Inside the enclosure are spring-loaded electrical contacts and a metal ball bearing that act as a spring-loaded actuator. The DCL10 limit switch is designed so that the ball bearing is positioned between the two contact elements. The ball bearing is also able to be manipulated by an external object moving it to the left or right.
When an external object contacts the ball bearing, it is moved to either the left or right position. This in turn actuates the electrical contacts in the switch. The ball bearing is held in position by a bias spring indicating the normal state of the switch contacts. Depending on the orientation of the contacts, this movement of the ball bearing will either open or close the contacts, thus turning the circuit on or off.
DCL10 limit switches are commonly used in many different industrial and electronic applications. These applications include industrial doors, machine tool equipment, automobiles, pressure washers, and industrial controls. They are also a popular choice for measuring fluid levels, temperature, and pressure in tanks and other vessels. The fact that they are mechanically operated allows for a more reliable and accurate way of switching than if the switch was purely operated electrically.
The construction of DCL10(C)F limit switches is also more robust than other types of limit switches. Even in environments that require additional protection from dust, dirt, and liquids, DCL10(C)F limit switches are designed to withstand the additional strain associated with these environments. This is especially beneficial for applications where reliability is of utmost importance.
Due to their robust construction and ability to detect relative position and/or motion, DCL10(C)F limit switches are one of the most widely used limit switches in the industry. This wide range of applications makes them a great choice for many different industrial and electronic applications. These switches can also provide a reliable and repeatable switching solution with greater reliability than if controlled solely electronically. The robust construction makes them suitable for many applications where durability and reliability are of utmost importance.
