DC-DC converters are widely used in industrial, commercial, medical and communication markets due to their capability to change the supply voltage, current and frequency. One particular type of DC-DC converter is the VI-203-CX, a boost converter that can operate from 2.5–25V input range, producing an output voltage of as much as 40V with a maximum output load current of 2A. This converter not only offers exceptional capabilities in converting low-voltage input into high voltage output, but also provides a high efficiency of up to 95%.

The VI-203-CX is a step-up voltage converter that uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control which enables the supply voltage to be controlled through a range of voltages and frequencies. The converter is able to accept input voltages of 2.5–25V and produce an output voltage of up to 40V. It is also capable of producing a maximum load current of 2A and a peak efficiency of up to 95%. It has a soft start feature which helps to prevent surge current during startup, and a low output ripple voltage of approximately 50mV.

The VI-203-CX consists of four main components – a MOSFET, capacitor, diode and inductor. The MOSFET functions as the main switching element – it switches on periodically, allowing current to flow from the input to the output. The capacitor and inductor form a resonance circuit, allowing current to quickly build up and releasing it back to the output in a controlled manner. The diode provides the protection, diverting any reverse current away from the input.

The VI-203-CX works on the principle of PWM control. The PWM output is generated by an internal oscillator. The oscillator frequency is adjustable by an external resistor, allowing for precise output voltage control. A signal is applied to the PWM input of the converter, causing it to switch on and off periodically. By changing the duty cycle of the PWM signal, the output voltage of the converter can be adjusted to the desired level.

The VI-203-CX also features over-voltage protection, which helps to prevent any unintentionally high output voltages that could arise. If the output voltage exceeds a pre-defined level, the converter will automatically shut off until the voltage has been lowered to a safe level. This prevents any over-voltage damage to the connected load.
