DC DC Converters
DC–DC converters referred to as DC–DC converters, are realizations of power electronic devices in the form of an electronic module that performs the conversion of the voltage level of the DC power supply. The DC-DC converter is the one between the DC power supply systems and power electronics equipment. It is used to isolate, regulate and step up or down the DC voltage.DC-DC converters are mainly divided into four categories: buck, boost, buck-boost and flyback converters. R1DA-121212/P is a Boost converter. The application of the Boost converter is to convert a low voltage into a higher voltage. Boost converter is also called a Step-up converter. One of the most commonly used application is for battery management, because even if the battery voltage is too low to use during the process, the Boost converter can make a digital output higher than the digital input source voltage. In other words, when the input voltage VIN is lower than the output voltage VOUT, the Boost converter can be connected to the input voltage VIN and then output a higher voltage of VOUT.According to the operating principle of the Boost converter, the Boost converter is an inductor-based non-isolated topology with a unidirectional flow of current as the main feature. Working principle of Boost converter is based on the inductor and two switches, the upper and lower switch, to drive the current path in series with the containing inductor. When the upper switch is turned on and the lower switch is turn off, the voltage across the inductor increases and causes the current through the inductor increases, as well. At the same time, the increased current begins to charge the output capacitor to the boosted output voltage. When the current reaches its maximum, the upper switch is then turn off, and the lower switch is turn on. The output voltage can then is released through the inductor and charges the output capacitor to its next output voltage level.The output voltage of the Boost converter can be regulated by adjusting the duty cycle of the upper switch, then the output voltage will rise when the duty cycle is increased. Finally, the output voltage of the Boost converter can be used for many load circuits and applications.
