DC-DC converters are power supplies that convert direct current (DC) voltages from one level to another. The R0.25S-3.315/P-R converter is specifically designed for industrial and mobile applications which require small-form-factor, high power conversion efficiency and rugged construction.

Application Field

The R0.25S-3.315/P-R converter is typically used in a variety of industrial and mobile applications such as telecom, automotive, medical, military, aerospace, and railway. It provides up to 96.5% efficiency with a wide 2:1 input voltage range of 6.6 V to 26.4 V, and a selectable output voltage of 3.3 V to 15 V with a maximum output current of 25A. The converter offers 0.2% voltage regulation accuracy, bringing extended high load and low load performance.

The converter\'s four directional heat sink also comes with integrated thermal management, allowing it to deliver a maximum power of 80 W with improved MTBF. The two set point control (SPC) pins offer flexible system design through programmable output voltage, over voltage protection (OVP)/under voltage protection (UVP) thresholds, and current limit features.

Working Principle

The R0.25S-3.315/P-R DC-DC converter is based on a buck type converter topology. It takes the input voltage and reduces it down to the required output voltage through the use of switching MOSFETs. The two MOSFETs can be seen as two switches, when one is on, the other is off. The duty cycle of their on/off times determines the output voltage level. The time taken to switch between the on and off states is called the frequency.

The converter also uses an inductor and capacitor to store energy and control the current flow. The inductor will absorb the current when one of the switches is on and release it when the other switch is on. The capacitor helps to control the ripple voltage in the converter.

The power output of the converter is controlled by varying the duty cycle of the two switches as well as controlling the frequency of the switching. The internal control circuit uses feedback signals from the output to precisely control the output voltage and keep it within the required levels.
