RT9058-25GV Application Field and Working Principle

PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) is the core device of electronic product power control and optimization system. As a type of PMIC, Voltage Regulators are important components that can control the voltage and current of electronic products. Of the various kinds of Voltage Regulators, Linear Voltage Regulators are widely used because of their low cost, low power consumption and low noise.The RT9058-25GV device is a Low dropout linear voltage regulator with integrated power MOSFET. This device integrates an ultra-low dropout linear regulator (LDO) together with an N-Channel MOSFET, which provides excellent load transient response and up to 500mA peak current output. The integrated N-Channel MOSFET also eliminates the need for an external boosting component to improve the component count, minimize solution size and optimize efficiency.Generally, RT9058-25GV applications may be either in dual power or remote power mode, but not both. In dual power mode, the device can be used to route the output - both VIN (main supply voltage) and VBACKUP (secondary supply voltage) - to the circuit. When the main power supply is lost or drops below the minimum voltage threshold, the RT9058-25GV would switch the output to the backup supply to ensure continuous power supply and ensure the circuit functions as expected. In remote power mode, the RT9058-25GV is used in applications where the output is sourced from VIN only, and VIN would be provided from a remote source away from the powered load.The RT9058-25GV has many advantages compared with other voltage regulators. First, it is able to provide up to 500mA peak output current, which is higher compared to other voltage regulators in the same class. Second, its low on-resistance (150mΩ@VOUT=1.8V) provides very low loss and lower power consumption. Third, the device is available in tiny SOT-23 and SOT-89 packages, offering a very small solution size. Last but not least, the built-in Dual Power Mechanism and Smart Shut Down features enable the device to be an optimal solution for continuous flow power supply and enable systems to automatically switch the power supply source, monitoring and protecting the system when an unexpected power failure occurs.The working principle of RT9058-25GV can be explained as follows. In Dual Power mode, an external capacitor is connected between RT9058-25GV’s EN pin and GND. The internal N-channel MOSFET is turned on and acts like a switch to connect the output to either the main or backup power source. If the input voltage of VIN is higher than that of VBACKUP, the N-Channel MOSFET will be on and the device will output VIN voltage. If VIN drops below VBACKUP, the N-Channel MOSFET will be turned off and the device will output VBACKUP instead. In the Remote Power mode, the MOSFET will remain turned off and the RT9058-25GV will always output VIN voltage.The RT9058-25GV also features a range of output voltage options, allowing its application to a variety of fixed and adjustable applications. The device is available in 2.5V, 3.3V, 3.0V to 5.0V, 2.8V to 10V, 2.478V to 9V and 4.825V to 9V version and a special version with selectable output of 2.5V, 3.3V and 4.2V. In addition, the device features an adjustable output range of 1.2V to 6.0V.In summary, the RT9058-25GV is an ultra-low dropout linear voltage regulator with integrated power MOSFET, which can be used in applications requiring dual power or remote power mode to ensure continuous power supply with 500mA peak current output. The device is available in a wide range of output voltage options and its integrated Dual Power Mechanism and Smart Shut Down features make it a cost-effective and versatile solution for power management applications.
