LM5056PMHX/NOPB Application Field and Working Principle
The LM5056PMHX/NOPB is a high performance, 36V, quad buck switching regulator with integrated 1.5A peak MOSFETs. It is a synchronous device that has a peak efficiency of 97%. Working Principle:
The LM5056PMHX/NOPB operation can be divided into two parts: the synchronous rectification, which takes place during switching cycles and the constant voltage regulation. During the synchronous rectification part of operation, the device functions as an synchronous buck converter by driving two internal MOSFETs alternatively to convert the input voltage VIN to an adjustable output voltage VOUT for each channel. During the constant voltage regulation phase, the LM5056PMHX/NOPB monitors the output voltage of each channel and regulates it by adjusting the duty cycle of the corresponding MOSFETs.
The two internal MOSFETs are alternatively switched at high frequency (up to 1.5 MHz) to convert the input voltage VIN to an adjustable output voltage VOUT. When the upper MOSFET is turned on, the output voltage VOUT is discharged and a current is fed through the inductor. When the upper MOSFET is turned off, the lower MOSFET is turned on and the inductor current is discharged, thus producing an output voltage VOUT.
The LM5056PMHX/NOPB also includes a constant voltage regulation circuit, which allows precise control of the output voltage. This control circuit acquires the output voltage of each channel and adjusts the duty cycle of the MOSFETs accordingly to keep the output voltage of each channel within the specified range.
