The UC3852D is a power factor correction (PFC) integrated circuit that provides a complete and robust PFC solution for both offline and online applications. It is also suitable for use in a wide voltage range, which enables it to be adapted to changing conditions.The UC3852D\'s working principle is based on a specialized average-current-mode control technique. This allows the control to respond to changes in operating conditions, by sensing and controlling the power factor and producing a near-unity power factor operation of electronic loads, even in a harsh and constantly changing environment. This technique also reduces energy loss and increases system efficiency.The UC3852D includes input, output and system boundary protection, as well as programmable control, power measurements and diagnostic feedback. It provides several features to optimize the overall PFC system performance, such as soft-start, protection against input voltage surge and over-voltage protection. The device features an integrated analog current comparator, as well as programmable high/low line protection.The other components in the system include the input current sensing, AC line input rectification, the power switch and the output reactor. The current sensing is done using a current transformer or a shunts, which will sense the current ripple and the changes in it. The input rectification is done using a diode bridge, which rectifies the AC line voltage and converts it to DC voltage.
