A switching regulator, also referred to as a DC-DC converter, or a switch mode regulator, is a type of DC-DC power converter. It takes a DC voltage input and creates a DC voltage output of a different voltage and amplitude. The AS1330-BTDT-18 is designed specifically for applications that require step-down and step-up voltage conversion.

The AS1330-BTDT-18 is a synchronous-rectified buck-boost switching regulator, which provides efficient step-up, and step-down voltage conversion. It can efficiently manage peak-to-peak current loads up to 2A, and peak current loads of up to 3A. The output voltage is programmed with an external voltage divider connected to the FB pin and the Vin pin. The output voltage range is from 0.6V to 3.6V with a steady-state accuracy of ±2%. The switching frequency is internally fixed to 500kHz.

The AS1330-BTDT-18 operates in a two-stage regulation loop. In the first stage, the peak-current-mode control regulates the ripple current in the inductor by comparing the voltage applied to the FB and the I sense inputs. In the second stage, the voltage mode control acts to regulate the output voltage by comparing the FB and the IFB inputs. This dual-loop control ensures a stable output voltage with fast transient response.

The AS1330-BTDT-18 has two programmable current limit settings: the IMAX and IMAXSET. IMAX is the current limit setting for normal operation, and IMAXSET is the current limit setting for when the output voltage is decreasing. Changing the IMAXSET current limit setting can prevent the output voltage from quickly decreasing when a large step load is applied to the output.

The AS1330-BTDT-18 has a low-noise, spread-spectrum PWM to reduce EMI. This feature can be enabled or disabled by turning the ADJ pin on or off. When the ADJ pin is enabled, the output voltage can be adjusted from 0.6V to 3.6V in 0.1V steps. A soft-start circuitry is used to prevent output voltage overshoots during startup.

The AS1330-BTDT-18 has excellent load and line regulation, as well as temperature stability. The output voltage is regulated for a wide input voltage range (2.5V to 5.5V) and a wide temperature range (-40℃ to 105℃). The device also includes a thermal shutdown circuitry and overcurrent protection. The AS1330-BTDT-18 is available in a 4x4mmQFN or 5-pad thermally enhanced LGA package.
