The UCC28516NG4 is an ultra-wide input voltage, high voltage, low-noise, low power, and reliable power factor correction IC. It offers maximum output voltage of 600V for universal input voltage range, including worldwide ac sources of 85-265V and dc sources up to 400V. It has the ability to conform to various switch node definitions and is compliant with the latest safety standards.The UCC28516NG4 is a fully integrated power factor correction solution that offers a simple, reliable and cost-effective way to enhance the efficiency of power distribution. It features a local voltage feedback loop and a high-side external MOSFET switch. This combination provides an aggressive approach to current sensing that allows for a smooth start-up and a low input current even under extreme line conditions. The UCC28516NG4 is particularly useful in applications that require reliable, high current, and accurate control of a power supply’s output voltage.The UCC28516NG4 is equipped with an oscillator that switches a MOSFET at a frequency determined by a resistor connected to the oscillator. This oscillator is used to control the switching frequency and to regulate the output voltage at a specific level. The input current is monitored by a PFC feedback which is then used to adjust a voltage reference inside the PFC controller. This voltage reference is then compared to the input voltage and the current that is then applied to the MOSFET is adjusted accordingly.When the output voltage is lower than targeted by the voltage reference, the MOSFET is turned on and the current increases; when the output voltage is higher than targeted by the voltage reference, the MOSFET is turned off, the current decreases. This cycle continues until the output voltage is stabilized at the targeted level. This way, the PFC controller modulates the output current to maintain a constant output voltage.
