Working Principle

The voltage reference establishes a reference voltage and the base of the first stage series pass element is connected to it. The second stage is a Darlington pair amplifier which provides voltage regulation and a low dropout voltage.

The input voltage is applied to the input pin, and is regulated by the series pass elements.The voltage reference establishes a constant voltage across the base of the series pass element. The voltage reference is adjustable through the adjustment pin which can be used to adjust the output voltage range according to the application. The output of the device is regulated by the Darlington amplifier which monitors the output voltage and any variations in the input voltage.
