A CD4047BM96 is a single monostable timer, multivibrator, or one-shot device. It is capable of producing accurate delays or oscillations to the user. The device is composed of two current-controlled devices connected in a cross-coupled configuration, which makes it a flip-flop. The device can be used to delay a signal, create a pulse with a given width, or create an oscillator with a frequency determined by an external resistor and capacitor.

A range of frequencies can be achieved by varying the values of R and C, this is particularly useful in applications where a regularly timed output is required, such as in an alarm or a strobe light.
The CD4047BM96 is ideally suited for low-power, low-maintenance, low-cost applications. It is simple to use and can be used to generate delays, pulses, or oscillations of accurate frequency.
