82P2821BH is a multi-mode power metering solution used in mainly Telecom applications. This device integrates a highly accurate power sensor with a microprocessor to measure, calculate, and store instantaneous voltage and current, as well as accumulation of power, energy, and demand. In addition, this chip can measure for a wide range of power line monitoring applications such as Single Phase, Residential and Commercial office buildings, Industrial and Data Centers, Power-over-Ethernet, Renewable energy systems, etc.

Working Principle
The working principle of the 82P2821BH is very simple. The device utilizes current and voltage transformers to calculate the instantaneous power consumption and has the ability to store this value for a predetermined period of time. This includes the time of analysis of the data as well as the time of resetting after a predetermined period. The completion of each measurement cycle is signaled using an asynchronous serial configuration message.
The 82P2821BH features Accumulating Power Functions (APF) which enable it to measure and store the accumulated power in watt-hours over time. This is calculated by the device by subtracting the last measurement from the current measurement, and then multiplying the difference by the time interval between the two measurements. This is helpful when it comes to tracking and optimizing the energy use of an application.
The 81P2821BH is also equipped with a Digital Monitor Pin (DMP), which helps to provide the power trends. The DMP is a digital voltage and current monitor designed to continuously detect and report the presence of a given power line. By monitoring the current and voltage on the power line, the 82P2821BH is able to provide the user with real-time power information, such as RMS Voltage, RMS Current and Instantaneous Power, as well as provide meaningful analysis of trends in power use.
In addition to the APF and DMP functions, the 82P2821BH also provides Dual Mode Operation which gives users the ability to measure both AC and DC power. The Dual Mode feature allows users to use different power sensors, such as current or voltage sensors, depending on the application. This feature is particularly useful for applications such as renewable energy or power-over-Ethernet applications.
