The VSC8540XMV-03 is a long-range, full-duplex Ethernet switch designed for carrier-grade Ethernet switching. It is designed to offer improved performance and scalability in order to meet the needs of today\'s ever increasing bandwidth and data rate requirements. The VSC8540XMV-03 has been designed for carrier-grade Ethernet networking applications and is ideal for frame relay networks and other applications such as point-to-point optical networks, Ethernet radio links and distributed architectures.

The VSC8540XMV-03 operates using two different configurations which can be used together or alternatively. The first is a 16-port bypass mode which allows the switch to silently detect and switch Ethernet traffic using a bypassing mechanism. This is used when high speed switching with minimal latency is required. The second configuration is a Layer 2/3 hardware switched mode which provides additional switch port count, dedicated hardware forwarding and Layer 3/4 switching capabilities.

The VSC8540XMV-03 offers a variety of features that make it suitable for a variety of applications. These features include support for long-distance network applications, high-quality packet routing and reliability, flexibility across multiple protocols and interfaces, on-board intelligence to optimize traffic directly at the switch, media access control security and Quality of Service.
