MAX16832AASA+T PMIC - LED drivers have become one of the most efficient and cost effective solutions for power management applications. The MAX16832AASA+T PMIC is a leading-edge and highly efficient monolithic power management integrated circuit (PMIC) that provides single-channel high-current driving, edge-triggered PWM dimming, and adjustable boost current to power a wide range of applications such as industrial, medical, automotive, consumer, and home entertainment. It is a low-voltage, high-performance, and cost-efficient DC/DC step-up LED driver that delivers excellent efficiency, performance, and integrated protection.

The primary field of applications for the MAX16832AASA+T PMIC is LED display, lighting, and backlighting. This PMIC is ideal for driving LED displays for applications such as monitors, televisions, laptops, automotive head and tail lamps, indoor and outdoor LED lighting, LED lighting strips, LED signage, and LED billboards. It is also suitable for battery-powered applications such as portable and cellular phones, media players, tablet computers, and navigation systems. It provides a perfect solution for applications requiring efficient and long-lasting illumination with low heat generation.

The working principle of the MAX16832AASA+T PMIC is based on a current-mode boost converter that regulates an output voltage to achieve the desired LED brightness with a minimum number of components. It operates in current mode, offering a fast transient response and excellent line and load regulation. It operates at a wide wide temperature range, allowing the LED current to remain constant even when the input voltage and the output current vary over a wide range. The integrated switch enables PWM dimming control, with an adjustable dimming current and adjustability of the PWM dimming frequency. It provides adjustable boost current limit and adjustable thermal shutdown temperature to prevent damage to the LED with an over-current or over-temperature condition.

The MAX16832AASA+T PMIC also features a programmable maximum boost current and under-voltage lockout (UVLO) to prevent attempts to draw too much current from the battery. It integrates open-drain flags for fault detections and thermal protection and active cycle-by-cycle current limiting for added safety. Furthermore, it features an adjustable sleep mode for power saving, a power-good indicator for fault detection and low power consumption of 6μA in sleep mode.
