Working Principle

At its core, the TPS25942ARVCT is an array of multiple N-channel MOSFETs connected in series with the source of each MOSFET connected to the same power rail. The power rail is essentially the same rail that supplies the target device.When the controller senses an over-current on the power rail, a sense signal is sent to the controller\'s internal over-current detection circuit. The over-current detection circuit then communicates with the gate drive and control logic units, disabling the gate drive and cutting off the power supply.The controller will then wait till the voltage on the power rail drops to a pre-determined level before reenabling the gate drive, restoring the power supply. This mechanism allows the controller to protect itself and the target device from damage due to overload or short circuit.
