The PI49FCT805BTQE is a Clock Buffer and Driver designed to provide low phase jitter and excellent signal integrity in clock signals. It is a one-bit low phase jitter differential clock driver which can take full advantage of differential signal transmission. The PI49FCT805BTQE is designed to buffer, drive and distribute high-speed clocks with up to four outputs. It can also be used to drive 10-bit serial data streams with up to two outputs. The device is designed to improve signal integrity when driving long traces and reduces ringing on stubs and traces with low impedance loads.
The PI49FCT805BTQE clock buffer and driver is ideal for clock tracing applications such as if a clock needs to be traced over a long distance. This is accomplished by using the output delay capability of this clock buffer. Clock signal traces can be kept as low as possible cross the PCB to minimize trace length and signal integrity issues due to signal ground bounce or noise. The multiple output buffers with fanout capability are useful when multiple outputs are required from a single clock signal.
The working principle of the PI49FCT805BTQE clock buffer and driver is based on differential signaling. Differential signaling is an effective transmission technique which can take advantage of the differential transmission line topology. In this topology, the output of the PI49FCT805BTQE is made up of two complementary signals, a ‘Differential’ signal, which is the difference between the two signals, and a ‘Common-mode’ signal, which is the average of the two signals. Thus, the two signals cancel out any noise and provide excellent signal integrity. The output signals of the PI49FCT805BTQE are further enhanced by the use of a low-pass filter, which filters out the high-frequency noise from the signal.
In terms of timing capability of this device, an output delay control is provided for each of the four outputs. The PI49FCT805BTQE can also be used to clock both 10-bit and 8-bit parallel Asynchronous data streams. The device also has programmable slew rate control with up to six different speeds, enabling the system to achieve optimum signal integrity throughout different signal loads.
