DC-DC converters, also known as dc-dc power converters, are a group of electronic components that convert electrical energy from one form to another. DC-DC converters are typically used to convert higher voltage dc electrical energy into lower voltage dc electrical energy, although they can also be used for other applications.The VE-210-EY is a DC-DC converter developed by Vacuum Electronics Ltd. Used mainly in applications such as marine applications, medical electronics, and industrial automation, it is designed to provide high-precision conversion and regulation of dc power.The VE-210-EY is a switch mode dc-dc converter capable of providing a very high level of regulation and conversion accuracy. The power factor of the VE-210-EY is 95%, offering as much as three times higher efficiency than standard linear converters. It is also designed to protect against overload, overvoltage, short circuit, and over temperature to ensure the safety of the device and its loaded system.The VE-210-EY DC-DC converter is a non-isolated SMPS solution which includes various features including input voltage, output current and voltage settings, and output voltage regulation. It can deliver 800W of power and offers a wide input voltage range starting from 9V DC to 48V DC. Its output current range can be adjusted between 4A and 35A (with 4A per output voltage pair) and output voltage range can be adjusted between 0 to 12 V DC. The output voltage accuracy of the VE-210-EY converter is 5%.The working principle of a dc-dc converter is based on the buck-boost principle. It converts the input voltage to higher or lower by switching between two switching devices, usually a pair of transistors, with alternating cycles. The converter relies on the fact that the voltage dropped across one of the switching devices is much smaller than the voltage across the other, and therefore its average voltage output is equal to the input voltage multiplied by the ratio of the two voltages.As the two switching devices turn on and off, the load current passes through them alternatively in opposite directions, resulting in an AC current flow through the inductor and capacitor. The inductor stores the energy during the off-time of the two switching devices. During the on-time of the two switching devices, the capacitor sends back the energy it has stored to the DC converter while a set of resistors shape the output voltage to the desired level.The VE-210-EY DC-DC converter utilizes the buck-boost principle to convert the dc voltage at high accuracy while achieving high efficiency. The voltage rating of the VE-210-EY and the wide range of features make it a very popular choice for dc-dc conversion applications.
