VE-210-EX Application Field and Working Principle

    

The VE-210-EX is a DC/DC converter that works as an isolated bidirectional power conversion unit. It provides a regulated output voltage with linear regulation when getting input voltage from a variety of sources, such as batteries, solar cells, and fuel cells. Additionally, it is capable of transferring power to its input through regenerative recharging of batteries.

    

The device can operate in two distinct modes: Constant Voltage (CV) and Constant Current (CC). When operated in CV mode, the device delivers a predetermined constant output voltage as long as the input voltage remains within acceptable limits. The CC mode allows the device to deliver a predetermined output current regardless of input voltage. In this mode, the device will increase the output voltage as necessary to compensate for the high current output.

    

The device includes a transformer, rectifier, and filter components, and relies on a PWM for optimal performance. The PWM changes the pulse width of a high-frequency rectangular waveform. This duty cycle is determined by the output required of the device. Additionally, the PWM creates a low-voltage drop across the main switch, which increases efficiency, and also eliminates the need for feedback loops, which can be unreliable.

    

The device is capable of accurately providing a stable output voltage with low ripple and high efficiency. The device also has features which detect input voltage levels and modifies the duty cycle with low power dissipation in order to achieve overload protection. Additionally, the device has an adjustable soft start-up feature, adjustable frequency operation, and over temperature and over voltage protection.
