The TCDT1122G optoisolator is composed of an LED optically coupled to a photodiode. The LED and photodiode are mounted in a small hermetically sealed package along with several electrical connections. The electrical connections consist of two SMA terminals, one anode (+) and one cathode (-). The SMA terminals are insulated to prevent any activity in the power terminal when in operation.
The LED in the module emits an optical signal when a voltage is applied between the anode and cathode terminals and the power terminal is connected to a grounded reference. The emitted optical signal travels to the photodiode where it is accepted and converted into an electrical current. The electrical current travels back to the power terminal where it is able to drive external loads such as relays, alarms, and motors.
