Power management systems are becoming increasingly complex, and many microcontroller applications require multiple power sources, such as AC line power, batteries, and USB that require peak current for efficient operation. In order to make this more efficient, MAX6781LTA+T can be used as a power management integrated circuit (PMIC). This integrated circuit, which is also known as a Battery Management IC, is used for managing the charging, discharging, and monitoring of rechargeable Li-ion and Li-polymer batteries.

When it comes to the working principles of the MAX6781LTA+T, the Li+ and BCD (Bring Cell Discharge) core functions are combined into one single IC. Li+ Core is responsible for supplying power, charging the battery and monitoring its temperature. On the other hand, the BCD core is responsible for managing the charge and discharge of the Li+ cells, discharging them and controlling the voltages.
The battery voltage monitoring feature keeps accurate track of the battery and its current state. This way, it can keep the battery safe and avoid overcharging or deep discharging it. It also prevents excessive current from consuming the battery quickly. Additionally, the battery temperature monitoring feature ensures that the battery will never be exposed to excessively high temperatures which the charging process could generate.

It automatically shuts down when the die temperature of the battery charger exceeds 125°C, protecting the IC against thermal runaway or over-temperature conditions. It also offers a power-savings mode which helps to reduce system power consumption when long standby time is required.
