The LP339DR is a quad-channel rail-to-rail voltage comparator which belongs to the family of linear comparators. It is used as an input buffer to logic/memory/processor circuits in many applications as it requires minimal external components, has low power consumption, and provides exceptional noise performance. The LP339DR comparator is a single package consisting of four individual input channels, each with their own hysteresis control and output. The LP339DR comparator structure consists of four operational amplifiers with a latch circuit for each channel. The outputs are open collector outputs and the inputs share a common power supply, VCC, and ground pins. The inverting and non-inverting input pins are connected differentially to the inputs of amplifiers, as shown in the block diagram. The amplifier gain is determined by the ratio of R1 and Rf, which is determined by the hysteresis control pins of each channel.
The amplifier works by measuring and comparing the differential signal across the two input pins. If the voltages of these two pins are equal, the output will remain low. If the voltage on the inverting input pin is higher than the voltage on the non-inverting pin, the output will go high. The hysteresis pins of each channel are used to adjust the gain of the amplifier, which then also determines how much hysteresis is present in the signal.
