The ICS7152 or Advanced MATH Integrated circuit (AMI-11) is a low cost programmable clock synthesizer designed for a wide range of timing and frequency control applications.
The ICS7152 has been designed for applications requiring well-defined, synchronous clocking signals from both oscillating and dividing circuits. It is also suitable for a wide range of clock multifunction integrated circuit. It is well suited for timing and frequency generation, buffering and regulation of data clocks, frequency multiplication and division, and phase deriving.
The ICS7152 is a programmable, low cost, high performance clock generator which integrates up to four independent clocking outputs on a single die. The ICS7152 is designed for applications requiring well-defined, synchronous clocking signals from both oscillating and dividing circuits. Its feature set includes programmable clock frequencies, duty cycles, and phase delays. It also includes a power conservation mode and clock forcing capabilities.
The ICS7152 also includes a built-in Digital Ratio Detector (DRD) allowing users to dynamically measure and control the relationship between two clock outputs or two input clock signals. The ICS7152 contains two independent clock dividers that can divide an input reference clock by any integer in the range of 2 to 255. There are also three independent oscillators that can generate frequencies in the range from nearly zero hertz to up to 200 MHz.
The ICS7152 can be programmed and tested via a serial interface, and its high performance timing characteristics remain consistent across a wide range of operating conditions. The ICS7152 is available in both plastic and metal packaging, making it ideal for use in a variety of applications, including industrial automation and consumer electronics.
The working principle of ICS7152 is simple - it uses a highly integrated programmable logic core with a fractional-N frequency synthesizer to generate a wide range of clock frequencies from a single reference input. The ICS7152 takes this single reference input and then creates multiple clock outputs with different frequencies and duty cycles. These outputs can be used to drive a variety of synchronous interfaces, including I2C, SPI, and Ethernet.
