The AAT3157ITP-T1 is a switch-capacitor based linear current regulator specifically designed for driving LEDs. It is a type of PMIC (power management integrated circuit) – LED Driver. It delivers a regulated and precise average current up to 20 mA while switching quickly between the set current level and zero. This current regulator works by rapidly switching its high side switch, capacitor and current mirror output at a frequency which is adjustable.

The AAT3157ITP-T1 is specifically designed to meet the requirement of highly efficient and space constrained solid-state lighting systems. To provide an appropriate solution for driving various types of LEDs, it includes an adjustable Control/Enable pin and a Sleep Mode pin. The AAT3157ITP-T1 also offers additional features, such as a wide input voltage range of 2.5V to 15V. The operating voltage range is from 3V to 20V, and the maximum sink current is 40 mA. Furthermore, it has an over-temperature protection (OTP) of +150°C and a reverse battery protection up to 32V.

The AAT3157ITP-T1 works by rapidly switching its high side switch, capacitor, and current mirror output at a frequency which is adjustable. When an input voltage is applied, the integrated switch is turned ON and the capacitor is charged to the input voltage. As the voltage across the capacitor reaches the peak level, the switch is turned OFF and the capacitor discharges its stored energy, thus providing a regulated current to the LED. The switch continues to alternate in this way at a frequency determined by the internal clock, thus producing a regulated current to the LED.

The whole working process of AAT3157ITP-T1 can be summarized as follows: When a signal from the Enable/Control pin is received, the internal capacitor is charged up to the peak voltage and then discharged through the LED. This process is repeated at the rate determined by the internal clock, thus producing a regulated and precise average LED current.
