Thyristors are a type of semiconductor devices that have a wide range of applications in both analogue and digital circuits. 1. What are DIACs?

2. How do DIACs Work?

When a negative voltage is applied to the gate, the junction breaks down, allowing current to flow between the two anodes. This current will remain until the current drops below the holding current level, at which point the gate voltage must be reversed in order to maintain conduction. DIACs are commonly used in AC switching applications such as relays, timers and level detectors.
3. What are SIDACs?
SIDACs, or semi-conducting diodes, are four-terminal thyristors that are used to control DC and AC circuits. They are triggered by an applied voltage and will remain in a conducting state until the current falls below a specified holding current. Unlike DIACs, SIDACs are not symmetrical and will conduct current in only one direction when triggered.
4. How do SIDACs Work?
SIDACs are composed of two PN junction diodes connected in a series configuration. When a positive voltage is applied to the gate terminal, the junction below it will break down, allowing current to flow. The SIDAC will then remain in a conducting state until the current falls below the holding current, at which point the gate voltage will have to be reversed in order to maintain conduction. SIDACs are commonly used in motor control and other DC applications.

DB4 thyristors are widely used in multiple industries, including industrial, automotive and aerospace applications.
