Working Principle

In its simplest form, a SCR is critical in AC power control circuits consisting of controlling the flow of power by periodically interrupting the supply of power to the load. It is also known as being a thyristor, since it is a combination of two types of transistors providing both a rectification and an on-off control function.The VS-40TPS12APBF SCR utilizes a gate control mechanism to turn it on or off. When the gate receives a positive voltage, typically above 0.8V, the SCR turns on allowing electrical current to flow from the cathode to the anode. If the gate voltage drops below 0.3V the SCR turns off and no current flows.When used for AC power control the SCR functions as a switch, allowing electricity to flow to the load and switch off relatively quickly when the voltage drops.

The rated forward blocking voltage of the VS-40TPS12APBF is 40V, with 25A and 1kV for peak and RMS reverse circuit respectively. Other features include surface mount device and incident light triggered with a trigger current of 2 to 20mA.
