CODEBUG is an evaluation board: an all-in-one platform the user can use to get up and running with embedded systems and microcontroller development (Microchip, Atmel, NXP, STM and others). As such, CODEBUG lends itself to a range of applications across various embedded development fields and users can choose from development boards up to full production boards.
CODEBUG consists of an ARM Cortex-M0-based microprocessor, an Atmel ATmega328P and an Atmel ATmega1284P. In addition, CODEBUG features several ports, connectors and headers with which users can interface with the microcontrollers. This wide range of specifications and components, as well as the specialized design, make CODEBUG a perfect platform for a wide variety of embedded applications.
The key features and advantages of CODEBUG include:
- Compatibility with a wide range of microcontrollers
- Serial, I2C and SPI interfaces
- Free development software, samples and libraries
- Low pin count for reduced PCB size
- IP-based Ethernet connectivity
- Built-in debugging and high-speed programmable logic
- On-board programming and control
- Robust and reliable hardware
- Low power consumption with adjustable power modes
CODEBUG supports a wide range of embedded development software development tools, including Atmel Studio IDE (Atmel Studio 7 is used for code generation and debugging), Atmel Debugger (for debugging and programming of microcontrollers), the Atmel Device Drivers library, and the Atmel build system. In addition, CODEBUG offers support for free libraries and development kits, including the Atmel ATmega328P Bootloader, a low-level drivers suite, and wireless communication libraries.
The working principle of CODEBUG is a simple one - it is designed to act as an interface between the user and the microcontroller. The microcontroller itself is responsible for the actual functioning of the board, while CODEBUG allows users to program, debug and control it. Through the use of the Atmel Studio IDE and Atmel Debugger, users can write, compile, run and debug programs on the microcontroller. In addition, they can use the Atmel Device Driver library to take advantage of on-board resources such as GPIOs, timers, serial interfaces and digital peripherals. Furthermore, CODEBUG makes use of the Atmel build system to ensure that all components and libraries are properly linked and functioning.
CODEBUG is an incredibly versatile evaluation board. Thanks to its flexibility and compatibility with a wide range of microcontrollers, users can use CODEBUG for a variety of applications - ranging from small home projects to full production builds. It can be effectively used with MCUs, DSPs and other embedded systems, making it an invaluable tool for any embedded developer.
