SI3402BISO-EVB is an evaluation board that is designed for DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS applications. It provides the necessary information regarding operating characteristics, component values, and circuit layout of a simple high-efficiency off-line power supply. The board simplifies the design process by providing all the necessary components required for the task. It is also a versatile tool which allows for exploration and testing of different solutions with different parameters.

The main purpose of the SI3402BISO-EVB evaluation board is to evaluate the different operating parameters, components values, and circuit layout of the SMPS. This information can be used to design cost-effective and efficient DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) power supplies. It also demonstrates the effectiveness of the particular components and combination of the components and can be used as a reference design for further design projects.

The operation of the SI3402BISO-EVB is based on the full-bridge topology. The full bridge rectifier uses a pair of switches which alternately connects the input voltage source to the output capacitor. The switches perform the same reset action for each cycle providing quasi-constant voltage on the output capacitors. To implement full-bridge topology, the board uses an integrated circuit (IC) named SI3402BISO.

The IC offers a wide range of features for design and development of highly efficient off-line power supplies. It also provides an enhanced level of integration with its two-stage PFC and PWM controller. The IC integrated features provides excellent performance and user-friendly features such as a light load auto-dim, soft start operation and frequency jittering. The light load auto-dim feature reduces power dissipation at light load and improves power efficiency.

The onboard power supply features an isolated flyback control with two power nodes. The first power node is the power input and the second is the power output. The power operation of the board is implemented using the isolated flyback control and the pulse width modulation. The pulse width modulation is used to adjust the switching frequency and duty cycle to maintain a constant output. The output voltage and current can be monitored by connecting probe to the test points.

The SI3402BISO-EVB evaluation board also features an onboard microcontroller that is used to initialize and setup the board. The microcontroller is used to program the parameters required by the evaluation board such as the switching frequency, voltage regulation and current limit. The board also offers an onboard calibration feature which is used to adjust the output voltage and current as required by the application.
