The LM5023-2NBEVM evaluation module (EVM) is designed to evaluate the features of the LM5023 dual synchronous Buck controller IC. The EVM has been designed to replicate the high performance, low power and high efficiency of a synchronous buck converter dedicated to off-line power supplies used in DC-DC and AC-DC power conversion applications. The EVM can be used for various power conversion applications, such as notebook computers, LCD monitors, LCD TVs, PC power supplies, telecom systems, PoE applications and other consumer electronics.

The LM5023-2NBEVMs are ideal for general power conversion application because they are designed to work with high power low DC-DC and AC-DC converters. The LM5023-2NBEVM has a wide input voltage range of up to 400Vac, and operates at up to 300kHz with multiple current and current sharing capabilities. Additionally, the EMV supports a wide operating temperature range of -40 to +85°C, making it ideal for applications in high temperature environments. The EMV also features integrated gate drivers and silent mode operation for lower audible noise levels. Furthermore, the EMV includes differential remote voltage sensing capability for improved system performance.

The LM5023-2NBEVMs use a self-biasing architecture to minimize external components, and minimize the need for an external control loop compensation capacitor and resistor. This ensures fast transient response and steady state performance without the complexity of implementing a loop compensation network. Furthermore, the LM5023-2NBEVM can integrate output overvoltage protection, synchronous rectification, soft shutdown and active turn-on circuitry. The EVM also includes a heatsink and cooling fan to ensure stability and longevity in high-power applications.

The LM5023-2NBEVMs are powered by a high-frequency clock, and feature a closed-loop feedback architecture for quick transient response and precise output regulation. The feedback loop is based on a voltage mode architecture, where the voltage at the sense pin is compared to the reference voltage at the FB pin. If the sense pin voltage is higher than the reference voltage, the switching frequency is increased to reduce the amount of power dissipated by the converter. Similarly, if the sense pin voltage is lower than the reference voltage, the switching frequency is decreased to increase the amount of power dissipated by the converter. The compensation components are used to ensure a stable operation of the feedback loop.

The LM5023-2NBEVMs are suitable for DC/DC (step-up and step-down) and AC/DC (rectify and invert) power conversion applications. The EVM can be configured to evaluate various input and output voltages, and its output can be adjusted for various power levels. The LM5023-2NBEVMs provide a high level of flexibility to easily adapt to different power conversion requirements. Furthermore, the EVMs have been designed to provide a high reliability and an easy installation in order to ensure a long life and a low maintenance cost for the user.
