Evaluation Boards - Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs) are used to accurately convert analog signals into digital information. The EVAL-AD79X8CBZ is an evaluation board by Analog Devices, Inc. that is designed to evaluate the performance and features of its AD79X8 family products. This board is powered by a single external supply and operates in the range of 2.2V-5.5V. It has a USB port for interfacing with a PC and is also provided with an on-board data acquisition system.
The board has an 8-bit resolution Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) whose output ports can be configured to act as reference voltages or current sources. The board has 8 Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) channels each with an input range of 2.2V to 5.8V. The ADC is provided with a wide range of sample rates including 250kHz, 500kHz, and 1MHz. The DAC and ADC outputs can be calibrated by an on-board voltage reference chip and a trimming potentiometer.
The board also features a temperature sensor (LM75) and a 10 MHz reference oscillator. It is further equipped with the AD7950A which is a 12-bit buffered voltage DAC with internal reference voltage and operation amplifier. This board consists of an ADF4159 programmable frequency synthesizer which allows for frequency synthesizer design and control. Additionally, it is supplied with a Microchip MCP2221 USB-to-I2C/UART interface.
The EVAL-AD79X8CBZ development environment provides an intuitive GUI-based software which enables configuration, monitoring, and control of the board. The hardware components are accessible through this software, and the board can be used to evaluate or debug the AD79X8 family of devices.
The user also has the option of reprogramming the hardware components to customize operation as desired. Such customization can be performed with the on-board Altera Cyclone MAX 10 FPGA. It can be used with multipurpose programming tools like System Designer, HDL Designer, software debugger, and host processor software development kit.
