.D-Sub, D-Shaped Connectors and Backshells, Hoods are the most common connection devices used in a variety of industrial applications.
A D-Subminiature connector contains multiple pins which are arranged in a “D” or “E” shape. It is used to connect two threads, devices, or signals together. The pins are seated in pre-drilled holes in the base of the connector, and are held securely by the metal joiner.
Backshells and Hoods are also used in these same applications, and are the means of connecting the pins to each other or the external environment. This is done using a snap-in locking mechanism or by using flexible cable ties or clamps. Backshells provide an additional layer of protection for the pins and contacts from the environment, and also provide some strain relief. Hoods provide a base which the pins are then soldered to, providing an even better seal from the environment.
In the most common application, a D-Sub connector is used to link two cables or wires together. The pins are inserted into pre-cut holes in the base of the connector, and the wires are soldered to the pins. The Backshells and Hoods are then attached to each end of the connector to provide strain relief, electrical insulation, and secure the connection. The pins and wire can then be crimped, staked, or soldered into a secure connection.
Another application of the D-Sub connector is to link two circuits together. The pins are inserted into the base of the connector and then soldered to the circuit. The Backshells and Hoods are then attached to each connector to provide a protected connection, electrical insulation, and strain relief.
The D-Sub, D-Shaped Connectors and Backshells, Hoods are also widely used in the automotive and aerospace industries for their strong, durable, and highly reliable connections. The pins and wires are inserted into the base of the connector and then crimped, threaded, or soldered into the base. The Backshells and Hoods provide extra protection, strain relief, and electrical insulation.
D-Sub connectors and Backshells and Hoods are essential components in the production and operation of a wide range of electrical and electronic devices. These components provide reliable, secure connections between wires, cables, and circuits, ensuring that they can work together safely and efficiently.
