This rapidly dissipates the heat buildup, cooling the Poly-Switch Resettable device and allowing it to contract back to its original shape, resetting the fuse and restoring normal current flow.

This process can be repeated numerous times, each time the fuse successfully responding to an overcurrent and resetting itself. However, the repeated use of the fuse will eventually cause it to ‘burn’ out, losing its ability to reset and permanently disrupting the current flow, alerting the user to the need for a replacement.
