1.5SMC68A is a transient voltage suppressor diode (TVS). It has a variety of wide-ranging applications, such as in automotive, consumer and industrial markets. It is designed to provide very fast clamping action during overvoltage transients and is usually selected according to the application\'s particular voltage, current and packages requirements. Designed in ultra-small outline packages, 1.5SMC68A devices are the perfect choice for space-constrained, plug and play applications.
The working principle of 1.5SMC68A is quite simple. It contains p-n-p structures pre-loaded with highly doped contacts. This creates a low thermal resistance junction that facilitates fast response to voltage overshoots. When the input voltage crosses the breakdown voltage threshold of the device, the p-n-p junctions conducts current and the resulting energy is dissipated in the components as heat. The 1.5SMC68A device safeguards power supplies, circuits, interconnects and other sensitive components from being damaged by excessive transient voltages.
The 1.5SMC68A TVS is a fast-acting diode that can handle up to 1.5A peak surge current. It is designed to protect electronic components from transients and similar overvoltage occurrences. The rated standoff voltage can be changed by selecting a diode from a range of available voltages. This devices typically feature an 8mm creepage distance and are available in ultra-miniature SOD-123F and SC-88 packages. This ensures they will fit into narrow spaces and other highly populated PCBs.
1.5SMC68A devices have an extremely low leakage current and a low forward voltage drop, making them ideal for high-efficiency applications. The operating temperature range is from -55°C to +145°C,which is far broader than most other TVS diodes and ensures operational stability and increased reliability in high-temperature environments. It also provides excellent clamping capability and can withstand surge pulses up to 10A with a 20μs pulse width.
