Working Principle of H3163-05

The H3163-05 connectors feature crimp & crimp termination option. Generally, this type of connector is "fully captured" and it prevents any movement of the conductor to ensure reliable contact. The two parts of the plug combine together to form a solid connection.

The connection is made by crimping a pin on a conductor. The pin is then inserted into the receptacle and held in place by a pin retainer. The retainer is made of a flexible material which allows for a secure connection and prevents the pin from coming loose. The insulation of the conducting wire is crimped onto the retainer when fastened together. This ensures an additional layer of insulation.

The H3163-05 achieves an IP67 protection rating providing a complete dust and water proofing making it suitable to be used in tougher environmental conditions. This series of connectors is available in 4, 6, 10, 16, 20, 50 and 64 pin configurations. The contacts come in several sizes, materials and finishes. The most common material used is gold over nickel. This material ensures an optimum electrical performance even in harsh and rugged environments.
