KBPC100-G is a diode bridge rectifier, which is widely used in all kinds of power supplies, converters and rectifiers. It is a junction type bridge rectifier and consists of four semiconductor diodes. It either consists of four individual diodes or it is combined in a single package. It is commonly used as a full-wave rectifier or a half-wave rectifier depending on the type of rectification that is required.
The structure of the bridge rectifier consists of four main components- an AC power source, two diodes, a capacitor and a load. When the AC voltage is plugged into the bridge rectifier, the two positive and two negative legs of the electrical alternating current (AC) are each connected to two separate diodes. One of the positive legs is connected to a diode that is connected to the positive leg of the load, while the other positive leg is connected to a diode that is connected to the negative leg of the load. The two negative legs are connected to two separate diodes, which are connected directly to the capacitor.
The AC voltage is then converted into a direct current (DC) voltage by the bridge rectifier. During the first half cycle of the AC voltage, the positive leg will be connected to a diode that is connected to the positive leg of the load and the negative leg will be connected to a diode that is connected to the negative leg of the load. This will cause the diode to become forward-biased and allow current to flow through the circuit. During the second half cycle, the positive leg will be connected to a diode that is connected to the negative leg of the load and the negative leg will be connected to a diode that is connected to the positive leg of the load. This will cause the diode to become reverse-biased and will also allow current to flow through the circuit.
The capacitor connected to the two diodes is used to filter-out or eliminate any residual or unwanted AC ripple in the DC output. The AC ripple is the unwanted AC component that is present in the form of a voltage wave or cycle along with the desired DC voltage in the output voltage wave. The capacitor stores up charge during the time it is connected to the forward-biased diode, and then discharges it during the time it is connected to the reverse-biased diode. This charge/discharge cycle helps to create a much smoother DC output voltage wave.
The KBPC100-G rectifier is commonly used in electronic engineering applications, such as motor speed control, dynamic braking, DC power supply and other DC applications where a fast and efficient rectification of AC electricity is needed. Since the output of the rectifier is a DC voltage, it can also be used in battery charging applications, as well as other types of DC-to-DC conversion circuits.
