A MM3Z3V3B is a single Zener diode, a type of diode that permits current flow in one forward direction, usually from the anode to the cathode, just like a normal diode. Unlike a normal diode, however, the Zener diode also permits current flow in the reverse direction when the voltage of said current meets or exceeds the Zener voltage – a voltage specific to each individual Zener diode. When the specified Zener voltage is met or exceeded, the Zener diode creates a stable channel of direct current flow from the cathode to the anode, offering an effective voltage regulation solution.

The MM3Z3V3B particular can be best characterized as a low-power diode, with a rated maximum power dissipation of 250 milliwatts in a typical operating environment.
