Linear - ComparatorsLinear - Comparators are used mainly for comparing two inputs, which are responses from a transmitter or a combination of them. A Linear - Comparator is composed of several components and the TS3704ID is one example. A linear - comparator is usually used to check for any disparity between two input signals and to determine which input far better than the other one.The TS3704ID is a quad comparator that is used to compare four separate data inputs. It compares the relative magnitudes of two input analog signals, and outputs a digital-like logic state indicative of the comparison. In other words, the TS3704ID indicates whether the input A is greater than, less than, or equal to, input B regarding voltage or current differentials. It operates on low power supply voltage and includes hysteresis and latch capabilities.The working principle of the TS3704ID is based on the open loop operation of a Schmitt trigger. A Schmitt trigger is an electronic circuit that switches its output between two states, usually 0 and 1. It has two distinct thresholds within the same input range; when one of the thresholds is exceeded, the output of a Schmitt trigger flips 1 to 0 (or 0 to 1) depending on whether it had previously exceeded the other threshold. So in this manner, a Schmitt trigger is used to compare two inputs and output the result of that comparison as a 1 or 0.The TS3704ID has four independent Schmitt triggers comprising the quad comparator. The input signal of channel A is compared to the input signal of channel B. The outputs are issued as either high or low, depending on whether the signal of channel A is greater than, less than, or equal to, signal of channel B. The TS3704ID also has a hysteresis feature, which helps to reduce the effect of lock-up due to electrical noise on the input.
