DS2762BX-025/T&R Application Field and Working Principle
The DS2762BX-025/T&R is a two-channel, integrated-circuit battery-management device with dual current sense amplifiers. It features a 0.1mV, main-channel-amplifier voltage-accuracy threshold when controlling linear chargers. The device also provides precise control of float-voltage supervisory reference for multi-cell battery applications.
The DS2762BX-025/T&R is designed to power various applications, such as smart phones and tablets, hand-held electronics, remote control systems, and automotive electronics. In those applications, the DS2762BX-025/T&R can perform functions such as over-voltage protection, over-current protection, over-temperature protection, and pre-charging.
The DS2762BX-025/T&R mainly includes three parts: the main channel current sense amplifier, the secondary channel current sense amplifier, and the linear charger control block.
The main channel current sense amplifier is capable of detectingbattery charge and discharging currents up to 5A of differential output current. It can monitor both positive and negative terminal current senses from an external sense resistor and differential output voltage.
The secondary channel current sense amplifier can be boosted to increase electrical interface current as needed for higher amperage devices. It provides terminal voltage sensing for up to 4 cells with an accuracy of ±50mV. It also provides cell voltage monitoring, which is useful for detecting cell imbalance and other abnormalities.
The linear charger control block can provide precision control of linear charger by using a 0.1mV sensing voltage accuracy of the main-channel amplifier. This block also can generate PWM controlled outputs for step-down DC-DC converters. Furthermore, it provides inputs for controlling discharge cut-off when battery voltage reaches a certain level.
In addition, the DS2762BX-025/T&R features a programmable standard backup battery charger for emergency situations. With this feature, the system can switch to passive-backup battery charging mode when the main power fails. This can be especially useful for allowing the system to boot up from an inactive system state.
The DS2762BX-025/T&R provides a balance charging current to each of its cells and optimizes the battery performance. This ensures that all cells are evenly charged, preventing any cell overcharge and overdischarge conditions. Additionally, the device includes a low quiescent current supervision circuit, which can reduce the system power consumption significantly.
