The LNK407LG is a member of the Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) LED Driver family of power management ICs (PMICs) from Power Integrations. This PMIC provides a complete LED lighting solution for medium-to-high power LED applications, allowing LED lighting designs to easily meet stringent efficiency and EMI standards.The LNK407LG is a highly integrated power converter designed to drive from up to three strings of LEDs with up to 60V total series voltage, and up to 0.5A per string output current. It features an 8-bit setting for output current and is programmable for dimmable applications.The converter provides multiple protection features, such as open and/or short circuit protection, over-voltage protection as well as thermal protection. It is also capable of automatically dimming light levels over time to resist premature LED degradation.The LNK407LG utilizes Power Integrations’ patented EcoSmart® technology, which allows the device to provide high-efficiency performance while using ultra-low standby power. This is suitable for applications that require a low standby power budget such as green lighting and energy efficiency applications.This PWM LED driver operates in either a buck or boost configuration and utilizes a proprietary control scheme that allows the device to switch at higher frequency than conventional converters. This allows for reduced component size, reduced EMI and improved efficiency.The working principle of the LNK407LG PWM LED driver is similar to that of other PWM drivers. This device utilizes a fixed frequency oscillator to generate a fixed frequency output signal. This output signal is used to drive the power switches. The duty cycle of the power switches is then adjusted to regulate the output voltage, based on the external reference voltage set by the user. The LNK407LG also incorporates proprietary technology to maximize efficiency and reduce EMI when operated in the boost configuration. The LNK407LG PWM LED driver is suitable for a variety of LED applications, as it provides high power density, fast transient response, high efficiency, low standby power consumption and low dimmer flicker. It is also suitable for green lighting applications, as its low standby power consumption make it suitable to meet ENERGY STAR requirements.
