Operation Principles

The supervisory IC - LM2907MX-8/NOPB - performs voltage-to-frequency (V/F) and frequency-to-voltage (F/V) conversion. It generates a stable output voltage which maintains a constant frequency relationship to the input voltage. The circuit operates by comparing a reference voltage to the voltage at the input of the voltage-to-frequency converter. If the input voltage is greater than the reference voltage, the output of the converter is a high frequency, and if the input voltage is lower than the reference voltage, the output of the converter is a low frequency.

When a frequency-to-voltage converter is present, the reference voltage is created from the output of the voltage-to-frequency converter. The frequency-to-voltage converter utilizes the stable reference frequency from the voltage-to-frequency converter to generate the output voltage. The output of the frequency-to-voltage converter is connected to the input of the voltage-to-frequency converter, thus providing the two stages of operation.
