The 017530-0018 application field is an electrophoresis system that can be used to separate and test biochemical macromolecules in a wide range of applications, such as protein assays, DNA probing and peptide synthesis. With the Electrophoresis System, DNA molecules can be accurately separated and visualized. Working principle of the system consists of subjecting the macromolecules to electric forces, typically in an agarose gel matrix. The macromolecules are divided into bands according to size or charge and are then visualized.
The electrophoresis process uses an electric potential to move charged biopolymers such as proteins or DNA through an electrolyte solution contained in an agarose gel matrix. Agarose is a polysaccharide gel made up of linear polysaccharide chains and can be used to separate molecules based on their size and charge. The electric potential is directed across the gel from the anode to the cathode and causes the molecules to move in the opposite direction towards the anode.
