Terminal Blocks - Barrier Blocks
0386006111 Terminal Blocks are used for creating electrical connections between incoming wires and outgoing wires. Commonly seen in control panels and electrical circuits, these blocks are used to route energy from the incoming source to the outlook in an organized manner. Terminal Blocks can be as simple as one to two wire terminations, or they can be used to connect multiple wires to one or more outputs.
The most common type of Terminal Blocks is the barrier type. They are designated by a 4-digit code, followed by a prefix or suffix designating particular features, such as contacts, insulation, wire size, terminals, and strain relief. Barrier blocks are equipped with insulating barriers or walls between the contacts to prevent contact between mating terminals.
Materials and Construction
Terminal Blocks often come in different sizes and materials, such as aluminum, brass, copper, steel, polycarbonate, polyvinyl chloride, and nylon. Aluminium blocks offer superior heat and electrical conductivity and are highly resistant to corrosion, while brass is a lower-cost alternative. Polycarbonate blocks offer superior impact strength and good temperature resistance.
Terminal Blocks normally consist of a central busbar, two contact pin terminals for the associated wiring, and the clamp which holds the wires to the pin terminals. The pin terminals will usually have an eyelet or similar device into which a screw or bolt is used to secure the wiring in place. The clamp acts to secure the wiring to the pins and may be operated with a screw, lever, or other mechanism.
Working Principle
The primary purpose of Terminal Blocks is to connect wires from one source to another in a safe, reliable manner. This is accomplished by providing an interconnection between two wires, and by doing so, also providing insulation to prevent electrical shock. Terminal Blocks will generally feature several interconnecting loops, and the resulting connection is strong enough to carry current from one wire to another. Moreover, the barriers between the loops serve as insulation, preventing any electrical current from passing directly between two terminals.
In addition to electrical safety, Terminal Blocks provide many other benefits, such as providing easy access for repair work, constructing efficient control panels, and preventing wiring errors by interconnecting multiple terminals in a single block. This latter point is particularly useful in industrial settings, where hundreds if not thousands of wiring connections are necessary.
Applications
Terminal Blocks, and in particular Barrier Blocks, are widely used in electronic devices, including power supplies, switches, speakers, amplifiers, and more. They are also used in large-scale applications such as industrial equipment, automobiles, and other construction projects. They are used to efficiently route electricity from input to output, and provide a safe and secure interconnection between two wires.
Terminal Blocks are also widely used in control panels for automatic and remote control systems. This includes in building automation systems, where the blocks are used to control and manage various electrical and electronic components. In addition, they are used in industrial control panels to aid in the efficient and safe distribution of electricity to various equipment and devices.
Terminal Blocks have proven to be a very reliable, efficient and safe means of transferring electricity. Whether used in an electronic device or control panel, these blocks provide a secure connection that will last for many years. Their ability to provide insulation and prevent electrical shock also makes them an indispensable component of many electrical systems.
