Working Principle

Fixed inductors work based on the principle of magnetic induction, in which a magnetic field is induced by the electric current flowing through the inductor’s coil. The inductor will oppose the change in current which takes time and energy before any change in the current can occur. The inductor stores up magnetic energy as current flow increases until the flux density limits are reached.

The magnets within the fixed inductor are made from a ferromagnetic material with a straight-line hysteresis curve, which allows the inductor to be saturated when the magnetic structure of the inductor consistently increases electric current. When a certain value of electric current is sent through the coil, the amount of flux produced will cause the inductor to reach its magnetic saturation point.

When the magnetic field is strong enough, the inductor will be driven beyond its rated current with no increase in the current flowing into the inductor. When the core of the inductor reaches its saturation point, the inductor will be driven beyond its rated current, causing it to heat up and even damage components.

The 0819R-52F fixed inductor is designed to be less susceptible to saturation, which helps reduce the chance of components being damaged due to excessive current. By keeping the air gap larger, the inductor is able to maintain a lower temperature during periods of high current, and thus reduce the risk of the inductor damaging components in the circuit.
