The 108341-HMC463LP5 Application Field and Working Principle is a critical part of any RF system development that require various tests and assessments in order to effectively perform as expected. This evaluation board includes the HMC463LP5 16 GHz Wideband I/Q Mixer with Integrated Pre-Amps and Attenuator, making it an ideal tool for various RF testing purposes. The HMC463LP5 is designed as a wideband I/Q mixer. In the first stage, it is used to downconvert a high-frequency signal to IF frequency by heterodyning it with a local oscillator (LO) signal. This provides greater flexibility and better performance in a wide variety of RF applications. The mixer includes a pair of integrated low-noise pre-amps that are used to provide optimal signal conversion. The pre-amps have two distinct gain ranges: -6 dB and 0 dB. The mixers also have three integrated excellent attenuators with attenuation ranges of 30 dB, 20 dB, and 10 dB. This enables the user to adjust the gain accurately to achieve desired conversion performance. The output of the mixer is then directed to a low-noise amplifier which can be used for RF signal amplification. The amplifier can be tuned to a desired gain level using the appropriate control voltage. The output of the amplifier is then sent to a 50 ohm load, which may act as a passive filter in order to reduce any out of band signals. The entire circuit is powered by a single +5V supply and is constantly protected by extensive integrated ESD protection, giving it excellent noise performance. The board is also equipped with an SMA connector to connect a coaxial cable to the mixer, allowing the user to receive and transmit wideband RF signals.
