Aluminum electrolytic capacitors (AECs) are a type of electrolytic capacitor consisting of two aluminum foils which act as an anode and a cathode and are separated by a thin dielectric oxide layer created by anodic oxidation of the anode foil. This means the electrical charge carriers pass through the oxide layer to form a wafer-like structure which enables the capacitor to store large amounts of electrical energy.
